Borgata kicks off second annual Summer Poker Open

June 14th, 2007

Amidst all of the hype surrounding the WSOP, the Borgata hotel and casino kicked off their second annual Summer Poker Open today. The series, which runs through June 26th and consists of one-day events, is a favorite among East Coast players.

Poker professional, Joseph Brooks, offered his opinion on the appeal of the Borgata events: “Borgata runs the best tournaments on the East Coast. With the WSOP going on the same time, I did not know what to expect. Then I saw the full room and the atmosphere was great with the live action and the start of the Summer Open. This is a great event, close to home.”

The first event was a $500+60 buy in contested by over 450 players, resulting in a first place prize of over $67,000. Chris Kwon of New Jersey captured the win. Reginald Leonardo of New York, finished in second to claim $35,340. Third place finisher Krzysztof Perka commented, “Borgata does things right. Of course the poker action is everything in the game, but the massages from the Spa Toccare therapists are truly amazing. They helped me make it this far!”
