Bar poker bill wins Louisiana Senate Judiciary Committee approval
A bill that would allow Louisiana’s bars and restaurants host poker tournaments gained approval from the Louisiana Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, and now heads to the floor of the full Senate for consideration.
The bill places several restrictions on the participation of establishments; bars may not charge an entry fee or take a cut of the games, nor are they allowed to supply tables, cards or administrate the tournament in any way.
Even if the bill clears the Senate, it’s future is murky, as Governor Kathleen Blanco has indicated that she would be likely to veto any efforts to expand gambling in Louisiana.
