Blind man denied WSOP seat by Harrah’s
A blind poker player who won his World Series of Poker entry through satellite play has been denied the opportunity to play in the Main Event of the 2007 WSOP by the Rio Hotel and Casino.
Jason Holbrook, who lost his sight after a car accident, plays poker with the help of Michelle Espinoza, who tells Holbrook his hole cards and what cards are on the board. Holbrook won his seat thought a satellite at the Golden West Casino in Bakersfield, California.
Apparently, Espinoza’s assistance violates some tournament rule put in place by Harrah’s. “I just read the cards and tell him what’s on the table,†said Espinoza. “He plays the hand.”
“They said we could have a refund, but it’s not about that,†Holbrook said. “It’s about being able to play the game you love, like everyone else.”
