Florida legalizes no limit holdem

July 1st, 2007

A state law that went into effect today changed the face of legal cash games in Florida.

The law, the first major change to Florida’s poker laws since 2003, increases the maximum bet in limit holdem games from $2 to $5 and allows for the playing of no limit hold em games, capping the buy in at $100.

Prior to the passing of the law, no limit cash games were not legal in Florida. Players had a choice between tournaments, which were not restricted by the maximum bet statute, or cash games with a $2 maximum wager. Florida expects the new law to generate some 2 million in additional revenue for the state.
