Danish court determines the poker is a legal game of skill
A court in a Denmark suburb ruled last Friday that poker should be considered a game of skill, not of chance, legitimizing the game in the eyes of Danish law.
The ruling came out of charges against the president of the Danish Poker Association, Frederik Hostrup. Hostrup faced charges of arranging illegal gambling events. This ruling acquitted Hostrup, and also goes against previous rulings from the Danish government.
Hostrup’s attorney, Henrik Hoffmann praised the ruling. “Poker has become a sport of the people,” he said, adding, “There are between 200,000 and 300,000 Danes who play poker at least once a week and more than half a million who now play regularly.”
