WPT reaches agreement with China
World Poker Tour Enterprises reported today that they are set to sign an agreement with the China Leisure Sports Administrative Center that would create a partnership between the two bodies. Full details of the agreement were not announced.
The partnership is an unusual one insomuch that gambling is generally illegal in China. It is unclear at this point what the nature of the relationship will be, although it is known that the term of the agreement is 5 years. In a statement released today, the WPT described the goal of the partnership being to “promote the sport of poker, by helping to create, expand and commercialize China’s first ever national poker competition.”
WPT founder Steven Liscomb is due to sign the agreement at a Beijing hotel this afternoon.
