Phil Laak murder-for-hire saga apparently wrapped up (for now)

August 13th, 2007

laak.jpgBill Rini is reporting in his blog today that the bizarre saga involving Phil Laak, a Thailand tour operator, an ‘import-export’ business and an alleged murder-for-hire plot has reached some sort of conclusion (if that’s the word) as Tom Grant, the man who accused Phil of all sorts of things these last few weeks on a variety of webpages, is now claiming that Phil has compensated him to Grant’s satisfaction.

The story defies easy summation, but Rini does an excellent job in one of his earlier posts on the matter. Originally breaking in a somewhat bizarre thread on 2+2 about two weeks ago, the Laak story spread rapidly throughout the online poker world, all without any firm comment on the matter from Laak himself.

After a couple of weeks of wild accusations and frequent promises for additional proof, Grant has now apparently decided that his goal, whatever that may have been, has been reached. In an email he sent to Rini, Grant offered only the thinnest of explanations for his choice to cease and desist:

Bill Phil Laak has compensated me.That is all that needs to be said.
Regards
Tom
