Utah Online Poker Players Warned That They May Be Involved in Illegal Activity
Contrary to most states in the U.S, Utah opposes all forms of gambling, including lottery.
Recently, Utah state officials sent out letters to warn Utah online poker players that they may be violating state laws. State law enforcement have been able to retrieve names and addresses of online poker players who reside in the state after taking possession of databases from four companies involved in online gambling last spring.
The companies, which include CurrenC Ltd., Gateway Technologies LLC, and Hill Financial Services Inc, face multiple charges related to processing transactions from online gambling and disguising credit card charges. In addition to these firms, another seven individuals are prosecuted on the same grounds. The state seeks recovery of $150 million from the defendants.
