Largest casino in the world set to open today

Sheldon Adelson, chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, is in the Chinese city of Macau today to mark a watershed event in the global expansion of gambling - the opening of the world’s largest casino.
“Today is the beginning of what has been a dream of mine for some time to reproduce the capital of entertainment in Asia for Asians,” Adelson told reporters at a press conference prior to the casino’s opening.
The casino in question - the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel on Cotai, will be nearly twice the size of the original Venetian in Las Vegas. Measuring over 10.5 million square feet, the casino will have room sufficient to host nearly 10,000 table games and machines, a mall with a 350 store capacity and a hotel built with 3,000 suites. Oh, there’s also a sports stadium with a 15,000 person seating capacity.
The Venetian is expected to be the spark for a massive casino development boom in the region.
