Newsflash: Negreanu thinks he’s a pretty good poker player

Negreanu

As slapfights go, this one’s especially tame and 7 year oldish, but it’s a slapfight nonetheless: keep an eye on a brewing rivalry between actually-well-known pro Daniel Negreanu and only-faux-well-know-on-the-intertube pros.

Negreanu has apparently been turning a bit more of his attention to online poker lately, and, lo and behold, one of the best poker players in the world who’s won millions upon millions betting on cards isn’t especially impressed with what he sees. A quote from Daniel (from his forum posts on Full Contact) regarding his match with ADZ124:

Not saying this to be mean at all, but are you serious??? I felt like he was one of the weakest heads up players I’ve ever faced and don’t see how he could ever beat a good player heads up. I’m starting to wonder how good all of these online superstars really are because the ones that seem to be touted as excellent, play in such a way that I find easily exploitable.

I’m sitting, waiting for whoever, but my confidence is growing after playing some of these guys and leaving thoroughly unimpressed overall.

In response to a claim that he wasn’t +EV against these players long-term, Daniel said:

Absolutely no chance. If this guy is supposed to be better than me than I must be the biggest idiot in the world. I can’t imagine how it’s even remotely possible that I could lose to him long term unless he completely changed his tactics. Either y’all truly underestimate me in a big way or or overestimate the skill level of the online player.

That was enough to set off a small thread on 2+2, a companion thread on Full Contact, and a little bit about the whole thing on PokerKing.

Daily Poker Quiz

AA on safe board, no limit full ring - DailyHandQuiz

Game type: 25/50 Full Ring Cash, PokerStars
Your image: Active, possibly a little frustrated
Opponent's image: Very aggressive preflop
Your hand: Ad Ah

The setup: You've had an uneven session so far and it's been a bit since you won a hand. This hand there's a poster in the hijack preflop. The table folds to him and he checks. You raise $200. The button folds and the SB three bets to $825. The BB and hijack fold, and you flat.

You have a good amount of history with the raiser. He is a very active three bettor and seems to have your number in recent sessions. He is very aggressive against your preflop raises, especially if there's a squeeze opportunity. He's also a pretty steady continuation bettor.

You flop about as dry as can be:

jc 2h 6d

The SB leads for $985 into $1750. What's your play?
