Should WSOPE bracelets be counted as ‘full’ World Series of Poker titles?

With the first World Series of Poker Europe underway and two bracelets handed out so far, the inevitable discussion regarding the ‘meaning’ of those titles has already gotten underway.

While Harrah’s is certainly pushing for the titles to be seen with the same stature as those awarded during the World Series of Poker proper, a growing contingent of players are arguing that WSOPE bracelets should be treated the same way that a WSOP Circuit Event title would be treated - as a nice win, but not something that counts toward the long-term bracelet race standings for WSOP championships.

As one poster noted on 2+2:

Hey, thet want to move the World Series to Europe next year, I’ll be happy to count every bracelet won as a genuine world series of poker bracelet.

But this is a different event. The WSOP is over for the year. These are bracelets for something else. Call em WSOP-E braceltes if you want, but its a different fricken tournament…

Two years ago there was a similar controversy regarding the extra events at the US WSOP, which seemed to pass this year; those bracelets are now rarely disputed or disparaged. It may be that it will take a year or two for this issue to settle down as well.
