Norway looking to enforce regulations prohibiting online gambling
Online gambling is illegal in Norway, says Trond Giske, the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, and in order to enforce the law, the country wants to pass a new law which would prevent banks in Norway from making transfers to foreign gaming companies.
However, the new law would undoubtedly be fought in the European Free Trade Agreement court, which has previously upheld the opinion that games of chance involving money are economic activities protected by European Economic Area agreements. The proposed Norwegian legislation would need to prove it had legitimate cause for overriding public interest in the matter.
If the Norwegian UIGEA passes parliament by vote, it could be effective by next spring.
