While there’s yet to be an official word from the agencies involved, it seems as if the long-awaited regulations that will clarify the impact of the Internet Unlawful Gambling Enforcement Act will be published and made available for public comment sometime in the next week.
The majority of the speculation was driven by an email announcement from iMEGA, an online gaming lobbying group. A reliable source on poker forum 2+2 confirmed the speculation in this thread. In addition, Bloomberg reported two days ago that Treasury and the Fed were in the process of drafting regulations, and that the U.S. Office of Management and Budget approved draft regulations for implementation earlier this week.
Once the regulations are published, there will be a period of about three months where the regulations will be open for public comment before they can move on to become law.
At this point there is no real information concerning the nature or focus of the soon-to-be-published regulations, although we expect there to be leaks as the publishing date draws nearer.
A separate thread on 2+2 is developing where members are brainstorming the best strategy for public commenting on the regulations, although it’s a bit tough to have a discussion of substance on the issue without knowing the specifics of the regulations.
