The poker room in the Las Vegas Hilton is closing tomorrow after just more than two years of spotty attendance.

It’s the first Vegas card room to shut down since 2003, but its closing now isn’t a harbinger of a decline in poker popularity. Rather, it’s a sign that when in Vegas, players gravitate to the Strip, and it takes a little more than a well-appointed room in a nice hotel to pull them off it.

The very popular “Superbook” sportsbook will continue to operate on premises, as will Barry Manilow. And it looks like the Hilton is banking on slots, starting next month, to fill any gaps.
