Another new casino is on the way to Atlantic City. Revel Entertainment Group just received preliminary site plan approval from the city’s planning board for its “resort and entertainment experience,” as termed by Revel CEO Kevin DeSanctis, who wants the new complex to be more than just a casino.
“Revel,” as the experience will be called, is scheduled to open in the latter part of 2010, giving it a yearlong head start before the new Sands, also part of an Atlantic City trend toward newer, bigger, more comprehensive resort casinos, enters the picture.
Revel may be competing not only with Atlantic City, but with Vegas, as plans include Atlantic City’s first in-casino wedding chapel.
The next step in the planning process is getting an environmental permit from the state, which could be granted as early as next week.
Joe Corbo, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey, expressed pleasure at the news, saying that the project will generate jobs and tax revenue. “It demonstrates that the New Jersey gaming model is working,” he said.
