Kenny Tran: Internet pros not in the top 20 high stakes NLHE cash players

High stakes cash pro Kenny Tran, best known to many for his deep run in last year’s WSOP main event, has a surprisingly low opinion of online high stakes cash game players.
At least that’s what he told David Sklansky, who started a rapidly growing thread on the subject over at 2+2. Excerpt from the original thread:
Anyway about a month ago I happened to be in a (rare) 50-100 no limit holdem game with Kenny Tran, who I barely know, except that I hear he is one of the best high stakes cash game players. And I asked him how many of the top 20 high stakes NLH players nowadays, were mainly products of the internet. His answer was “zero, they can’t lay down a hand.”
The resulting furor quickly evolved into a bit of a challenge thread, with several posters suggesting that an actual series of games would be the best way to determine the relative quality of all involved. Sklansky then posted a follow up thread where he suggested that such a game wouldn’t be too difficult to arrange:
I know that the big games at the Bellagio and Venetian, while not actually closed to others, often start with a full table of invitees. But during the tournament that isn’t true. Or if it is, there will be a second game. So it will be a simple matter for internet players to try to make Kenny Tran eat his words. If you do play, please introduce yourself to me.
We’ll update if anything tangible grows out of this…
