After more than eight years, GlobalPlayer.com and GPCPokerroom are shutting down tomorrow (Friday).

Giancarlo Bettini, CEO of Universal Gaming Concepts Inc. explained in a press release yesterday:

The current changes in the legal and economic landscape of the gaming industry has made it increasingly difficult for us to compete and retain our market share. The strategic decision to cease operations while we are still in the position to satisfy our obligations to players, vendors, affiliates, and staff reinforces our integrity and commitment to good business practices.

The company is prepared to pay off customer accounts immediately, and will allow requests for payout until December 30.

The company is licensed and bonded in Antigua and Barbuda, which is currently awaiting a decision from World Trade Organization mediators regarding its online gaming battle with the US.
