PokerNews.com published an interview today featuring the two names at the heart of the latest online poker cheating scandal - Chris Vaughn, who recently had his Full Tilt Million Guarantee win revoked by Full Tilt, and Sorel Mizzi, the player that took over Vaughn’s account during the late stages of the tournament. Full background on the story here.
Both Vaughn and Mizzi have been banned from Full Tilt. Vaughn’s win was voided and second place finisher Søren Kongsgaard was awarded the title and first place money. All other finishers moved up one spot on the ladder.
PokerStars conducted an investigation of Vaughn’s Sunday Million win the subsequent weekend and concluded that no wrongdoing had occurred.
The PokerNews interview was published in two parts. Highlights: Mizzi claims he’s never done anything like this before, Vaughn suggests that connection issues late in the tournament were the catalyst for the conversation between himself and Mizzi that led to the account purchase, neither of them mention the amount the account was sold for (nor are they asked) and neither of them really address the issue of the harm the situation could potentially pose to online poker.
Both of them would also appreciate it, apparently, if you would feel sorry for them.
JC: Last question for you both, let’s start with you, Chris. Who do you feel personally the worst for in this entire situation?
CV: We’ve both been through a lot in this. We’ve taken a lot of heat. We’ve taken a lot of heat in different ways. It’s hard to say. You said “feel bad.” The best way to put it is I feel sorry for myself. It’s difficult to wake up and think about this everyday for sure….
Excerpt from Mizzi’s response to the same question:
…It’s just been a really terrible situation for everyone and it’s something that should’ve never happened and I think that we all, equally, have suffered. I think that Chris and I have suffered the same amount as the players have suffered….
