Poker Stars: Josh “JJProdigy” Field not welcome at PCA

Controversial online poker whiz kid Josh “JJProdigy” Field will apparently have to delay his live tournament debut for a week or two. Field, who became notorious for admitted multi-accounting and various other offenses committed while he was racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars in tournament wins, had planned for the Poker Stars Carribean Adventure EPT Event to be his coming out party. However, Poker Stars management has decided that Field’s ban from their online room should also extend to the live tournaments, such as the PCA, that are sponsored by Poker Stars.
This news is based on a response from PokerStars support posted in a thread over at Pocket Fives. Multiple members report receiving an identical response after emailing Stars support inquiring about Field’s status for the PCA:
Hello xxxxx,
Thank you for your email.
PokerStars management has decided to extend player’s JJProdigy current ban
to the PokerStars Carribean Adventure (PCA) event. If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Regards,
Jacob
PokerStars Support Manager
The general response to the news has, predictably, ranged from positive endorsement to indifference to continued defense of Field and outrage at Stars’ actions. For a sample, check out the relevant thread on 2+2 here.
Several posters have raised the interesting question of whether or not this will become a standard policy for Stars. Also, in a somewhat ironic twist to this stroy, it’s more than likely that Field’s public apology, posted on several forums last week, resulted in the attention that brought about his banning from the PCA.
