Kentucky casinos to be argued in 2008

The Kentucky legislature convenes tomorrow, and high on the list is budget-balancing. New Governor Steve Beshear, who handily defeated his “No Casinos” rival, former incumbent governor Ernie Fletcher, and vowed to expand gaming in his state as part of his plan to claim economic benefits, released his budget-cutting plan late last week.
Talks during the 60 day legislative session are expected to include arguments about bringing casinos to the financially strapped state. Senate President David Williams, an opponent to casino efforts in the Bluegrass State, said, “I see very little support in the House or the Senate at this juncture for an expansion of gaming.”
This will be an interesting session.
