The World Poker Tour has added a women-only league and tournament circuit to meet the increase of women in what has traditionally been a male pasttime. The WPT Ladies No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em tournament circuit will have buy-ins ranging from $300 - $1,500, with 15% of the $1,500 buy-ins going toward Susan G. Komen For the Cure, a foundation dedicated to fighting breast cancer, a top killer of women.
Each stop of the WPTL will provide a chance for a WPT title as well as a seat in the WPTL Championship, which will be held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
“Women are a rising force in poker,” said Robyn Moder, executive vice president of WPT Studios. “By bringing a WPT ladies league and tour stops to top gaming destinations across the US, we hope to support and perpetuate the evolution of the sport and recognition of the women who play.”
Season I starts Jan. 20 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. The WPTL Championship final table will be broadcast on WPT’s new network home, GSN.
