Various sources, including the victim himself, are reporting this morning that 22-year old poker player Jason Potter was robbed of approximately $30,000 (US) yesterday near the site of the Aussie Millions. The robbery took place as Potter was heading back to his hotel after having converted casino chips into cash for his trip home.
The Sydney Herald has a writeup on the robbery here.
For a more personal report, check out the 2+2 thread where Potter posts about the robbery. Here’s Potter’s first-hand description from the thread:
I had 30k in chips that I had to cash and exchange for USD before I left so I walked from my hotel (crowne plaza) to the casino (like 3 minute walk).. Got cash, got some mcdonalds, someone must have been casing me or something, cuz right on the middle of the bridge when I am walking back I hear footsteps running and this guy hits me in the back of the head, knocks me down and reaches right into my hoodie and grabs all the money, brandishes a knife, threatens me and runs off…
