Paddy Power Poker released the schedule for the 2008 Irish Open. This year’s open promises a 3 million Euro prize pool for the main event, with first place guaranteed a minimum of 800k Euros.
Alongside the Main Event activities are the side events, including the first Irish Open Ladies’ event. The no-limit freezeout on Mar. 21 is following this year’s trend toward gender-specific poker. Nikki Newman, Paddy Power’s head of poker, said, “I am very excited about it. I have always felt something of a personal compunction to help bring more women into the game. Colette Doherty, Irene Tier and Jenny Heggerty, showed us just how much power there is in the Irish ladies game. So what better backdrop could there be for a ladies poker event than the Irish Open itself!”
The Irish Open runs Mar. 19-24.
