A bill that would grant legal status to charitable poker games in South Carolina moved one step closer to becoming law when a State Senate panel gave its approval on Friday.

The bill aims to exempt charitable poker from South Carolina laws that ban dice and card games. According to a story from the Charleston Post and Courier, passage of the bill would almost certainly result in an increase in the amount of charitable poker played in the state. Excerpt:

The law that currently bans the games is rarely enforced, but it has stopped plans for several charitable gambling events in the Charleston area in recent years.

Last year, radio station WTMA-AM’s Holy City Charity at the Charleston Area Convention Center was canceled after the State Law Enforce- ment Division said the poker challenge could jeopardize the convention center’s liquor license and trigger criminal gambling charges.

In 2005, the Folly Beach Fine Arts Center, the St. Andrews Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Charleston were forced to drop their casino night fundraisers after similar cautions from the state.

Whole thing here.

The setup: You're fairly new to this table and you picked up a pot quick when you flopped a set and won a decent multi-way pot. You've been fairly active since, seeing a lot of flops cheap and playing for the win on the flop or turn in a couple of spots.

This hand you're dealt AQo UTG and you decide to limp. The button limps and both blinds play. You flop top pair:

Qd 7h 6d

The SB leads out for $6. The BB folds. You make it $24 and the button folds. The SB calls. The turn gives you two pair with the Ac. The SB checks and you pop $40 into $54. The SB flat calls.

The turn comes the 10c. The SB checks again. There's $134 in the middle. Do you value bet here and if so, for how much?
