Lee Markholt had cashed 14 times before on the World Poker Tour, but he never made it to a final table.

When he finally made it to one, he didn’t waste the opportunity.

Markholt won the WPT’s World Poker Challenge on Friday in Reno, Nev., taking the first-place prize of $493,815 in the $7,500 buy-in event.

Markholt came into the final table, which also featured pro David “The Dragon” Pham, trailing chip leader Jason Potter, but outlasted the field for the victory.

Here’s how Markholt won it with three players left, according to pokerpages.com

Zach Hyman would take a hit from Markholt early in three-handed play. That was quickly followed up by a race, his Kh-Jh never catching up to Devonshire’s 9-9. Just minutes into heads-up play, Devonshire would get the rest of his stack in with 4-3-2-J on the board, his 8-4 drawing dead against the J-4 of Markholt.

Whole thing here.

The win was Markholt’s first since 2005.

Game type: 25/50 Full Ring Cash, PokerStars
Your image: Active, possibly a little frustrated
Opponent's image: Very aggressive preflop
Your hand: Ad Ah

The setup: You've had an uneven session so far and it's been a bit since you won a hand. This hand there's a poster in the hijack preflop. The table folds to him and he checks. You raise $200. The button folds and the SB three bets to $825. The BB and hijack fold, and you flat.

You have a good amount of history with the raiser. He is a very active three bettor and seems to have your number in recent sessions. He is very aggressive against your preflop raises, especially if there's a squeeze opportunity. He's also a pretty steady continuation bettor.

You flop about as dry as can be:

The SB leads for $985 into $1750. What's your play?
