Antigua officials in U.S. to resolve online gaming dispute

Antigua officials will be meeting with the U.S. Trade Representative this week in an effort to resolve to ongoing dispute between the two countries regarding online gaming.
Friday’s meeting will attempt to end the impasse on the issue — the U.S. has blocked access to its market by Antigua’s online gaming providers. The issue has been dealt with via the World Trade Organization, who has ruled on Antigua’s side and awarded damages to the country against the United States.
According to the Antigua Sun’s Web site:
The time allotted for the conclusion of the current round of talks is drawing to a close. The two countries applied to the WTO to suspend all legal efforts in Geneva until 6 June. If no resolution is achieved before then, the legal trade battle will be automatically resumed.
Both Minister of Finance and the Economy Dr. Errol Cort and Antigua and Barbuda’s attorney at the WTO Mark Mendel have expressed the opinion that an amicable resolution would be preferable to the continuation of the protracted WTO battle.
