Meskwaki tribal officials hope to allow players under the age 21 to play poker in the Meskwaki Bingo-Casino-Hotel near Tama, Iowa, according to a story at gazetteonline.com:
Larry Lasley Jr., the tribe’s executive director, said the Tribal Council has approved a plan to allow 18- to 21-year-olds to play poker games such as Texas Hold ‘em. A date for the change hasn’t been set. The tribe can make the move because poker players, not the casino, would provide the game’s jackpot when they buy into the game, Lasley said.
The tribe’s gaming compact with the state regulates only Class 3 games, such as blackjack, in which the casino provides a dealer and has a stake in the outcome. Non-banked, non-dealer games fall under Class 2.
Currently, no casinos in Iowa allow players under 21 at their poker tables.
