Erik Lindgren survived a table full of seasoned professionals to win his first World Series of Poker bracelet, outlasting Bodog pro Justin Bonomo for the title in event No. 4, $5,000 mixed hold’em.
The final table also included such stars as Howard Lederer, David Williams Roland de Wolfe and Isaac Haxton.
Lindgren entered the final table in sixth place but walked away with the top prize of more than $374,000. Previously he had amassed nearly $6 million in lifetime earnings and two World Poker Tour titles.
Here’s how heads-up play went down, according to cardplayer.com:
After the first no-limit portion of the heads-up match between Erick Lindgren and Justin Bonomo ended without too much chip movement, the game switched back to limit hold’em. This was when Lindgren changed gears and poured on the aggression. He rattled off five pots in a row at one point to take a massive chip lead and leave Bonomo in a perilous position.
Bonomo was on a short stack when Lindgren raised to 80,000 preflop and he made the call. The flop rolled out 10 5 3 and both players checked. The turn fell 4 and Bonomo bet 80,000. Lindgren made the call and the river hit the table 8. Bonomo bet 80,000 and Lindgren raised to 160,000. Bonomo called all in and they turned up their hands to decide the bracelet. Bonomo held 5 4 for two pair but Lindgren turned over A 2 for a turned straight to win his first gold bracelet.
