A gambling researcher from a Canadian university said the country needs to deal with online gambling in an authoritative way, before it’s too late.
Robert Williams, from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, was speaking to the Waterloo Region Action Group on Gambling Issues, according to a story at The Record:
“I think the federal government needs to take the bull by the horns and make it clear in legislation that gambling is either prohibited or it’s legal –but they need to get rid of the uncertainty,” Williams said.
University and college-educated men in their 20s are gambling more than anyone, Williams said. That makes gambling a very real problem in the region, the home of two universities and a college, said Kevin Harrigan, who leads a problem gambling research team at the University of Waterloo.
The story notes that 60% of online gambling in Canada is done in the form of online poker.
