Senior outlasts field of more than 2,000 players at WSOP

Dan Lacourse navigated his way though a field of 2,217 players to take down Event No. 42, the $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold’em World Championship at the World Series of Poker on Wednesday.
Lacourse eliminated each of the final four players in about an hour to win his first bracelet and the top prize of $368,832. Lacourse drew on his experience as a former polygraph examiner to win the event.
Many legends of poker played in the seniors-only event, including Amarillo Slim and Men “The Master” Nguyen.
Just one event is scheduled to wrap up today, Event No. 43, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better. Erik Seidel will be going after his ninth bracelet at that final table.
Also under way is one of the most anticipated events of the WSOP, Event No. 45, the $50,000 World Championship of H.O.R.S.E. One hundred and forty-eight players started the event on Wednesday and only eight players have been eliminated heading into the second of five days, including Phil Hellmuth.
