Scotty Nguyen takes down $50K HORSE at WSOP

Scotty Nguyen outlasted a star-studded and talented field to win Event No. 45, the $50,000 World Championship of H.O.R.S.E. at the World Series of Poker on Sunday.
With the win, Nguyen won his fifth career WSOP bracelet, the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy and the top prize of $1,989,120.
Nguyen outlasted a final table that included pro Huck Seed (eighth), who has won a main event and four bracelets total; Barry Greenstein (sixth), who has three bracelets; Lyle Berman (fifth), who has three bracelets, too; and Erick Lindgren, who won his first bracelet this year. In the end, Nguyen beat out 22-year-old
pro Michael DeMichele heads up for the win.
Also on Sunday, Alexandre Gomes won Event No. 48, $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em, for the first prize of $770,540. He is the first Brazilian — or South American, for that matter — to win a WSOP event, according to pokerpages.com.
The two events wrapped up on Sunday featured the two biggest prize pools of this year’s WSOP so far. Event No. 48 paid out $4.2 million, while Event No. 45 paid out $7.1 million.
Wrapping up today is the final $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event, Event No. 49, with J.C. Tran at the final table and trying to get his first bracelet.
