Already the force behind the Latin American Poker Tour, PokerStars looked to increase its presence in South America by signing recent World Series of Poker bracelet winner Alexandre Gomes of Brazil to Team PokerStars Pro.

Gomes, a 25-year-old lawyer, won Event No. 48, the $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, outlasting 2,317 people for the top prize of $770,540.

According to PokerStars’ blog:

Always logged on PokerStars as “Allingomes”, Alexandre is no stranger to final tables, having reached many in the 100+Rebuys, 50+Rebuys, 1K Super Tuesdays, and won the Wednesday Nightly Hundred and Fifty Grand for more 65K.

But Alexandre wanted more! He started chasing after the live circuit - in Brazil and internationally - and this year, at the WSOP, in the very first event he played, Alexandre became the first ever Brazilian to win a bracelet.

Whole thing here.
