GOP removes, then returns, anti-online gaming language in platform

What appeared to be a small victory for online poker enthusiasts was quickly reversed yesterday, as the GOP rapidly reinstated language in its official platform condemning online gambling. The language was briefly removed from the platform after pressure from the PPA and forces within the GOP looking to improve the party’s appeal to a mainstream voter base.
However, those forces proved no match for the socially conservative wing of the party, and the language is now back in the official platform. Here’s the specific bit:
“Millions of Americans suffer from problem or pathological gambling that can destroy families. We support legislation prohibiting gambling over the Internet or in student athletics by student athletes who are participating in competitive sports.”
Such a fluid, pleasing group of words to boot. If you’re inclined, you can complain about it to the GOP here.
