The APPT wrapped up its Macau festivities with a very exclusive High Rollers event that featured not only poker’s elite but also a very hefty $19,250 buyin. Even with only 61 entrants, the prizepool nearly reached $1.3 million dollars, with almost $475k going to first place.
The final 9 players had such big names as Johnny Chan, Quinn Do, and Nam Le all attempting to make their own respective runs at the first place title. Even APPT Macau runner-up Charles Chua decided to make an appearance at the final table! It was certainly a star-packed finale, although one that wasn’t taped for broadcast unfortunately.
The next 11 hours saw many of the final 9 getting felted and sent to the rail. Even the “Orient Express” Johnny Chan couldn’t find the right cards this day, going out in a surprising 7th place. Even tournament pros like David Steicke and Quinn Do also went out in 7th and 3rd, respectively, setting the stage for a heads-up battle between Team Bodog member Nam Le and little unknown Andrew Scott.
As the 11th hour passed, it would be Nam Le taking home the title of APPT Champion, beating Scott in a very tight match. Andrew would take home $269,000 and change for his 2nd place efforts, while Nam Le looked on happily as he was presented with the Asia Pacific Poker Tour champions trophy and of course a nice payday of $474,358.
All in a day’s work for a high roller like Le, right?
