CEREUS poker network opts out of Kentucky
It just got a little tougher for residents of Kentucky to play poker online.
The CEREUS poker network recently began stopping Kentuckians from accessing the site. The network is the home of Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet. The move stems from the ongoing legal battle on the U.S. commonwealth, where Kentucky is attempting to seize domain names belonging to gambling Web sites.
The move by CEREUS, like other online gambling companies before it, is aimed at keeping the company out of legal trouble in Kentucky moving forward.
According to Poker News Daily:
Players on Absolute Poker received an e-mail early Monday morning that read, “We regret to inform you that, effective immediately, AbsolutePoker.com is no longer available to Kentucky residents. This means that you will not be able to access our website and software from within the state boundaries of Kentucky.” A link to the site’s cashier and e-mail address of its support is also given. A similar e-mail was sent to members of Ultimate Bet with a link to that site’s cashier and support included. Members pointed out that online poker rooms PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are still accepting business from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as is Bodog.
PokerStars, Full Tilt and Bodog are all still available to Kentucky residents.
A hearing on the possible seizure of internet domains of gambling sites that do business in Kentucky is scheduled for December 12.
