A big Sunday on PokerStars just got bigger.
In an effort to drive more people to its site for an attempt at a Guiness world record for the biggest poker tournament ever held, PokerStars is increasing the guaranteed prize pool for the Sunday Million to $2.5 million this Sunday, December 28. The buy-in will remain $215.
Poker Stars wants to have 35,000 people play in the world record attempt, an $11 buyin, $500,000 guaranteed tournament held the same day.
The site is also providing a lot of other features in coordination with the record attempt:
- The prize pool for the Sunday Warm-Up has been increased to $1 million.
- PS is introducing $1 buy-in 10,000 player sit and go tournaments for a limited time starting on Saturday, with $10,000 added to the prize pool for each tournament.

- Bonuses are being given to players dealt into milestone hands — every time a millionth hand is dealt.

This Sunday at 13:00 ET, Team PokerStars Pro members will face off against each other for a chance to win money for charity and determine who will be the Team PokerStars Pro captain. Why would they need a captain, you ask? Well, the details are still coming in on that one, but it has to do with something called PokerStars All-Star Weekend, a brand new online team competition coming next year.
The Team PokerStars Pro Championship match will be an 8-game mixed event. The PokerStars Blog will have live reports for the duration of the match. You can watch the event play out under Tourney/Special. Later in the week you will be able to see the tournament replayed with the cards up.
