Foxwoods Numbers See Sharp Dropoff

The Foxwoods Poker Classic, a World Poker Tour, is suffering through one of its poorest years in terms of attendance. The 259 players who made the trip for this year’s main event pales in comparison to the field of 344 that showed up last year.
There’s any number of reasons why the field size could have dropped so significantly - WPT events aren’t what they used to be in terms or prestige or payday, for one. Foxwoods is also facing stiff competition on both the live and online poker fronts: The Bellagio is running prelims for the 25k WPT event coming up at the end of April, and PokerStars is keeping plenty of players who might otherwise venture into a live poker room glued to their screens with the wildly successful SCOOP tournament series.
