Just under 6,500 players started the World Series of Poker main event with the goal of making the final table and becoming one of the “November Nine.”

Just 27 players still have a chance.

Day 7 of the ME started with 64 players, and now just one day remains before a final table is reached. Like last year, the ME will go on hiatus and the final nine will return in November. In all likelihood, play will not end today and will continue well into Thursday morning before we know the identities of the nine players.

The odds likely favor Phil Ivey reaching the final table. He came into the day in third and finished in fourth, sitting on more than 11 million chips. With seven bracelets to his name — including two this year — Ivey is the most feared player remaining.

Darvin Moon held onto his chip lead and now has more than 20 million in front of him.

Other players of note still in the field: Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari and Jordan Smith (who won a bracelet this year) are both at about 4.5M.

Among the eliminations: Tom “DonkeyBomber” Schneider (2007 WSOP Player of the Year) and Dennis Phillips (2008 ME final table).

Play is scheduled to continue today at noon. Check for updates here. And check back at PTP for a report when the final table is set.
