The online version of the ‘durrrr challenge’ has generated a pretty good amount of hype and a decent amount of play so far. On the strength of that, and the increasing popularity of Tom Dwan on televised poker programs, Matchroom Sport has announced plans for a live version of the durrrr challenge, an event they’re calling the “Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge.”

The live version is a much different animal than the online - in fact, the only real similarity is that both involve Tom Dwan and heads up PLO matches. While the online durrrr challenge saw Dwan laying his opponents pretty sick odds that they wouldn’t show a profit over 50,000 hands, the live version has no such component. Instead, it’s a four-part match, 500 hands a part, that will see Dwan square off against four different opponents.

Players can choose PLO or NL. Players can’t exit the match until they bust or until 500 hands have been played. The buy in: 500k. The blinds: 500/1000.

Dwan had this to say about the challenge in an article on MatchSport: “I am looking forward to sitting down and playing some of the World’s best players live in London,” said Dwan. “There looks to be lots of interest in people wanting to play me but they never seem to appear on-line. It will be interesting to see the response Eddie (Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of Matchroom Sport) gets and just who is willing to get it on.”

No opponents have been named yet. In the online version of the DC, Dwan is currently battling it out with Patrik Antonius. View full coverage of their match here.
