There’s been no shortage of debate on poker message boards about who has the best chance to take down the championship at the final table of the Main Event of the 2009 World Series of Poker. Now people will have a chance to put their money where their mouth is (assuming local laws allow them to do so) as major betting sites have started to roll out odds for the WSOP final table.

The odds as posted on Bodog:

Darvin Moon (58,930,000) - 17/10
Eric Buchman (34,800,000) - 3/1
Phil Ivey (9,765,000) - 4/1
Jeff Shulman (19,580,000) - 4/1
Steven Begleiter (29,885,000) - 4/1
Joe Cada (13,215,000) - 10/1
Kevin Schaffel (12,390,000) - 12/1
Antoine Saout (9,500,000) - 12/1
James Akenhead (6,800,000) - 22/1

Moon as the favorite with a huge chip stack makes sense, but given how he got those chips, it seems like a bad bet. The oddest choice seems to be putting Ivey, Shulman and Steven Begleiter all at 4-1. While Ivey is Ivey, Shulman is no tournament slouch and has a very playable stack.

Akenhead might also represent a better than average longshot. He’s no doubt a skilled short stack player, and it wouldn’t take anything but a double up for him to be right back in reasonable contention - giving Saout almost double the chance with just a slightly larger stack relative to the blinds seems like an error.
